For Animal Crossing fans eagerly awaiting the next entry, this cozy sci-fi alternative could be the perfect fit for their Nintendo Switch 2. Petit Planet, a brand-new life simulation game from the makers of Genshin Impact, is officially coming to Nintendo's latest console in 2027.
HoYoverse, the global gaming publisher behind hits like Zenless Zone Zero and Honkai: Star Rail, has confirmed that Petit Planet will launch as a free-to-download game on Dec. 4, 2026, for PC and mobile devices. A Nintendo Switch 2 version will follow in 2027, marking HoYoverse's first game released on a Nintendo platform. More information after the jump.
Genshin Impact Creator Confirms Petit Planet's December 4 Release Ahead of Nintendo Switch 2 Debut
Petit Planet will be available on iOS and Android devices, as well as PC, on Dec. 4. Players assume the role of a Planet Tender, journeying across the Starsea on the back of Oumuamua, a Starsea Spirit said to listen to the wishes in people's hearts. After planting a Luca Seed that eventually grows into a Luca Arbor, players can gradually shape their planet's landscape, seasons, and ecosystem.
"Life on the planet is never lonely," HoYoverse explains. "Planet Coordinator Mobai and Starsea Racer Elsasani are the first to welcome each Planet Tender to their new home, with more Neighbors arriving over time, each with their own stories to tell.
"As players get to know their Neighbors, chance encounters can blossom into lasting friendships. Beyond life on their home planet, players can set sail across the Starsea to explore its scattered Islets, or head to the Galactic Bazaar to enjoy games, take part in auctions, and share their creations."
Like Animal Crossing, Petit Planet's gameplay loop focuses on peaceful daily activities, such as building relationships with adorable neighbors and customizing your surroundings. However, its sci-fi twist introduces a colorful cast of alien residents, a fantastical setting, and the sense of exploration Genshin Impact fans have come to love.
Petit Planet Celebrates December 4 Launch With Over 1,000 Free Items and Special Rewards
HoYoverse has prepared a series of events and rewards for Petit Planet players ahead of the game's December 2026 launch. A pre-registration lucky draw on the official website offers various prizes, while players can earn over 1,000 clothing and furniture items for free through regular gameplay. Additionally, players who team up with two friends to pre-register for the "Besties, Made to Match!" event will each receive an exclusive clothing item.
Starting Nov. 1, the special "Launch a Planet" event invites players to design their own planets on the official event website for a chance to win surprise grand prizes. The first-ever Petit Planet Seasonal Creation Event will kick off alongside the game's launch, offering cash prizes, in-game rewards, and official merchandise for selected fan creations. Following the pre-launch special program, players can also visit Petit Planet's official X (formerly Twitter) account to receive a "Moving Guide" and enter for a chance to win a suitcase, gift cards, and an exclusive luggage tag.
